A fact that is mentioned in passing later in the story is that Edan is incredibly smart. He is one of the most, if not the best, student at the school. His parents made him study hours on end when he was little, so he needs to wear glasses now when reading. He doesn't listen in class cause all he needs to do is learn whatever he needs to once and then he remembers it always.

And another fact....Leif finds in INCREDIBLY HOT. XD Edan uses it against him.

And yes, Edan can get very flustered when the right thing is said or when caught off guard. XD
